5 Games that are Way More Fun on a Computer than a Console

February 28, 2024

There is an ongoing debate out there about whether you should own a console or a gaming computer, and the answer may actually depend on what kind of games you plan to play. While many games are fun on consoles like the XBOX or PlayStation, some are way more fun when you play them on a computer.

PCs offer you some advantages that gaming consoles do not, including:

  • Better graphics
  • More game customization options
  • More controller options
  • Backward compatibility

Here are five games that definitely play better on a PC, so if you have your sights set on playing these games, make sure your gaming computer can keep up.

Halo: Master Chief Collection

The Halo series has long been available only on gaming consoles, but now the Master Chief Collection is being released for PCs. There are a total of six games that are being released in chronological order, with two that are already out and four to come:

  • Halo Reach – released December 3, 2019
  • Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary – released March 3, 2020
  • Halo 2: Anniversary – Coming in 2020
  • Halo 3 – Coming in 2020
  • Halo 3 Orbital Drop Shock Troopers (ODST) – Coming in 2020
  • Halo 4 – Coming in 2020

Eventually all six will be collected in a “single integrated experience” with more than 120 multiplayer maps and 67 campaign missions, plus input from the community for future evolution and growth. Games will include 4K resolutions, HDR, plus mouse and keyboard support. Other features like split-screen co-op may be available in the future.

Minecraft

Minecraft on a PC is far more intuitive than on a console, giving you more capacity for building with the keyboard and mouse than with a game controller. The PC game also has more options for modifications and skin/texture packs (versus paid versions on a console). However, the PC version doesn’t include split-screen multiplayer features.

The Sims 4

Community sharing options on a PC give you more options with downloadable files for characters, houses (including incredible mansions), rooms, and more created by other players. Plus the keyboard and mouse controls are much easier than console controllers.

Diablo III

Since it started on PC before it was ever available on consoles, the Diablo III PC experience remains superior to gaming consoles. It’s much easier to use your mouse for all the clicks required, and the game is optimized for PC platforms.

Fortnite

You may have seen some of the leading Fortnite players on PCs instead of consoles, probably because you get more precise movements and better aim with a mouse and keyboard. PCs also reduce lag so your gameplay is smoother.
