3 Holiday PC Games that Will Blow Your Mind on a New Gaming Rig

December 22, 2020

The year 2020 has brought us some pretty incredible new games, which is good because it’s also a year when many of us have spent a little extra time inside. This holiday season (and into the new year) the trend of amazing new games is likely to continue. If you’re still playing games on an older gaming PC, now is the time to upgrade so that when you play these new games you get the full experience. Here are three games with bleeding-edge graphics, gameplay, and other features that you will only be able to truly appreciate on a new gaming rig.

Cyberpunk 2077

What will things look like in a dystopian future 50+ years from now? Maybe a lot like the pandemic year of 2020. Cyberpunk 2077 gives us a view of the future with some incredible open-world RPG action. The release has been pushed back a bit, but it’s out in December and is shaping up to be one of the best games of the season. Here’s the catch, though: you won’t have a great experience on an existing console (PS4 or Xbox One) or an older gaming PC. In fact, the release has been plagued with issues and the game designers have issued an apology because they spent so much time optimizing it for the consoles and PCs of the future that people without the latest tech were left frustrated.

The moral of the story is that you can get this incredible open-world RPG game, but you’ll want the latest tech to play it on. Either a PS5—which is basically impossible to get if you didn’t preorder it—or a brand new gaming PC. Save yourself the trouble of trying to track restocks at big-box stores or online, and just get a new PC to play it on.

Doom Eternal

Ready for some seriously intense action? Doom Eternal is palm-sweating, knuckle-cracking, completely excessive in every way fun for your PC. The game runs amazing well on all types of platforms, and it was really designed to be played on a PC (unlike some games designed for consoles that make the jump to PC but still feel awkward with keyboard and mouse controls). The series has traded some of its dark humor for fantasy lore, and it is almost non-stop action. For some it might feel a little excessive, but for those with the right machine you’ll feel totally immersed in the hurricane of noise, violence, speed, and light. Just make sure to come up for some air from time to time.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla

Of all the 23 games in the Assassin’s Creed library, this is one of the best. This story is engaging, with the same level of plot twists and turns that you might expect in a Hollywood movie, but you get to be part of the story. The characters that appear as part of the story help move the drama and action along without feeling confusing. Plus you won’t constantly be bombarded with experience boosts that you have to purchase to level up and move forward. Prepare to be completely immersed in the feelings of agony, betrayal, and triumph as you and your warrior brother chase glory.
